چکیده

I ntravenous amiodarone is a recognised treatment alternative for the conversion of atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm. Consensus regarding dosage and duration of treatment has not been reached. 5 Our coronary care unit routinely uses intravenous amiodarone for conversion of supraventricular arrhythmia in various clinical settings. Following a loading dose of 300 mg/30 mins, two alternative dosages of intravenous maintenance treatment—50 mg/hour and 100 mg/hour—employed. We compared the efficacy and safety of these two regimens in an open randomised study.

Comparison of intravenously administered dofetilide versus amiodarone in the acute termination of atrial fibrillation and flutter. A multicentre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

AIMS This study compared the efficacy and safety of intravenous dofetilide with amiodarone and placebo in converting atrial fibrillation or flutter to sinus rhythm. METHODS AND RESULTS One hundred and fifty patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter (duration range 2 h-6 months) were given 15-min intravenous infusions of 8 microg. kg(-1)of dofetilide (n=48), 5 mg. kg(-1)of amiodarone (n=50)...

بررسی اثر پروپرانولول و آمیودارون بر پیشگیری از فیبریلاسیون دهلیزی به دنبال عمل جراحی پیوند عروق کرونر

Background: Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia following CABG. This complication can cause palpitation, significant hemodynamic instability and thromboembolic events. This prospective randomized study evaluate prophylactic effects of propranolol low dose amiodarone and high dose amiodarone in patients candidate for CABG. Methods: Three hundred consecutive patients undergoing ele...

Arrhythmias in the intensive care patient.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, AV-nodal reentry tachycardia with rapid ventricular response, atrial ectopic tachycardia, and preexcitation syndromes combined with atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachyarrhythmias are typical arrhythmias in intensive care patients. Most frequently, the diagnosis of the underlying arrhythmia is possible from the physical examination, the...

Safety and efficacy of ibutilide in cardioversion of atrial flutter and fibrillation.

This article reviews the safety and efficacy of ibutilide for use in patients with atrial fibrillation and flutter. Ibutilide, a class III antiarrhythmic agent, is primarily used for conversion of atrial flutter and fibrillation and is a good alternative to electrical cardioversion. Ibutilide has a conversion rate of up to 75% to 80% in recent-onset atrial fibrillation and flutter; the conversi...

Efficacy, safety, and determinants of conversion of atrial fibrillation and flutter with oral amiodarone.

Amiodarone is effective for long-term maintenance of sinus rhythm after electrical cardioversion of refractory atrial fibrillation or flutter. To examine its efficacy and safety for pharmacologic conversion of these arrhythmias, we studied 129 patients with refractory atrial fibrillation or flutter who had failed previous intensive conventional antiarrhythmic treatment. In anticipation of elect...
